About

Nick Wilson is a Melbourne-based musician with a 25-year history in electronic music and sound art, having performed and recorded music with acts such as Random Acts of Elevator Music, City Frequencies, Tiatto, Continuum, Darrow and Space Is Ace, also working solo as Reductionist.


He is currently the Label Manager for the Australian electronic music collective Clan Analogue, producing award-nominated compilation Habitat: Environmental Sound Research among others.


Nick collaborated on the City Frequencies installation at the Melbourne Town Hall for the 2000 Next Wave Festival, the Café Voyeur installation at Kent St for the 2004 Melbourne Fringe Festival, and the Bush Resonance installation created during an artist-residency in Eltham, Victoria. He has composed music for Melbourne’s Re-Sound ensemble and contributed guest synth skills to Winduptoys, Philosophy Of Sound and Hot Coppers.


During 2008 and 2009 he managed Institute of Sound, a year-long series of electronic music production and performance workshops, and managed the Gear Shift series of electronic music jam sessions throughout 2014 and 2015. Recent projects include the Trautoniks performance with Peter Pichler from Germany on Trautonium and Australian composer Rae Howell. Currently he is working on his solo MicroVirtuosity project.


Nick edited the publication Interpreting the Synthesizer: Meaning Through Sonics. He is employed as a lecturer at SAE Institute’s Melbourne campus.
